Background and Training
Dr. Zhang's training was distinguished by early academic recognition, including election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Aesculapian Merit Based Scholarship, and the Dean's Summer Research Fellowship, alongside dedicated research in the Department of Ophthalmology. Residency brought continued academic distinction, with scores in the 97th and 96th percentiles on the OKAP examination as a PGY-3 and PGY-2. Surgical preparation was equally rigorous: by the final year of residency, Dr. Zhang had completed more than 250 cataract procedures and 50 glaucoma surgeries, with hands-on experience in ORA aberrometry, femtosecond laser assistance, and complex anterior segment procedures. Undergraduate study at the University of Virginia produced a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry with ACS certification.
Coming back to the community I grew up in is meaningful to me, and I want every patient who walks through the door to feel heard and well cared for. My goal is to combine careful listening with thorough, modern eye care so that families across the region get the answers and treatment they deserve.
