Signs and Symptoms of Dry Eyes

Most patients describe a sandy, gritty, foreign-body sensation, in one or both eyes, that often becomes more pronounced as the day progresses. Some patients may have severe “burning” sensation in the eye when exposed to the wind or a particularly dry or irritating environment, such as dry heat, warm or smoke-filled rooms.

Sensitivity to light may also be reported. During a regular eye exam, our doctors can examine the tear film and perform tests to determine what modality would best treat patients’ symptoms.

86% of dry eye sufferers are reported to have clinical signs of Meibomian Gland Dysfunctionn (MGD), and now, targeted treatment is here.

What is MGD?
Every time you blink, a protective layer of moisture called the tear film coats the front surface of your eye. An essential part of the tear film is an oily layer called meibum. MGD occurs when the meibomian glands that produce meibum get blocked or the secreted meibum is of poor quality and the aqueous part of the tears evaporate, as there is no oily layer to protect them.
How does iLux work?
The iLux MGD treatment device incorporates the innovative Smart Tip Patient Interface to deliver treatment directly to the blocked meibomian glands. During treatment, your eyelids are held between the soft, biocompatible pads of the iLux. Therapeutic, light-based heat will begin to warm the blocked glands to a safe temperature to help soften and release oil. The meibum melts and additional heat or pressure is applied depending your needs. Through compression, the oil is expressed from the glands and the treatment is complete.
How long does the iLux treatment take?
Once treatment begins is takes about 12 minutes for both eyes.

I had Lasik done on both eyes and the experience was great. I was legally blind in both eyes (corrected with contacts) and today I don’t need wear glasses to see at all. It really is amazing.
The procedure is explained in detail from start to finish.

I’m going to post here for Dr. Nasrullah. He is a fantastic Lasik surgeon. Even better, he really cares about his patients. He explained the surgery to me, answered all my questions. He re-checked my prescription before the surgery just to make sure they knew where I stood.
